Botanical Installations

The botanical installations begin with plants grown in my studio garden. After photographing each bloom at its peak, I process, print and hand color, using a technique that pre-dates both color film and digital photography. I do not try to replicate the true colors in nature, and in some installations, the color is minimized to downplay the decorative quality of the popular floral image. The photographs are delicately cut out, magnetized and nailed to the wall at various depths. While deconstructing the format of a traditional two dimensional photograph, the work is presented as colorized objects, devoid of their natural environment.
